Covered Patio & Outdoor Kitchen
The project
A deep covered patio with a full outdoor kitchen, oriented to keep the afternoon sun off the seating.
The existing slab was uncovered, west-facing, and unusable from May onward. The family wanted somewhere they could eat outside on a weeknight without planning around the sun.
The new structure runs deep enough to keep the seating in shade through the late afternoon, with a tongue-and-groove ceiling and fans sized to actually move air. A screen at the west end takes the worst of the low sun and the prevailing wind.
The kitchen run sits at the far end so the cook still faces the table, with the grill, counter and storage under cover and drainage detailed so nothing collects during a hard North Texas rain.
